By the way, the Romanian film 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days, directed by Cristian Mungiu, won the Palme d’Or, unfortunately not No Country.

Cannes: No Country for Old Men Reviews

Below are some excerpts of reviews of No Country for Old Men, which is premiering tonight at the Cannes Film Festival. Click on the links to read full articles. The reviews have been very positive and Kelly Macdonald has been receiving praise for her performance. I, for one, can’t wait to see the film!

From Screen Daily

There also seems insufficient space for the concept of love and the strength of the relationship between the fugitive Llewelyn and his beloved Carla Jean. A surprise piece of cast, Scots actress Kelly Macdonald is effective as Texas gal Carla Jean and brings a warmth and personality to the part that makes the most of her relatively brief screen time. A little more of that humanity might have engaged the heart as well the mind and lent a greater emotional impact to a film that sometimes drifts when it should grip and leaves the viewer pensive rather than completely satisfied by what it has achieved.

From The Independent

What you remember is the tender bantering between the sheriff and his wife or between the vet and his young bride (the Glaswegian actress Kelly Macdonald, passing immaculately for a west Texan). The deadpan humour springs as often as not from the dialogue, not from clever sight-gags.

From The Hollywood Reporter

He takes the money back to the trailer he shares with a devoted young wife played convincingly by Kelly MacDonald…

From Variety

Scottish thesp Kelly Macdonald registers potently as Moss’s country wife, while tasty supporting turns are delivered by Harrelson, Stephen Root as the latter character’s employer, Rodger Boyce as a sheriff who commiserates with Bell, Barry Corbin as Bell’s crusty old uncle, Ana Reeder as a swimming pool floozy who offers Moss some company and Gene Jones as the old fellow Chigurh makes call his own fate.
