Collecting the Emmy award, Kelly Macdonald said: “This is going to kill me. I’m so proud to have been a part of the film The Girl In The CafĂ©.” “This is for Richard Curtis, who is a very clever and kind man. He wrote a wonderful part for me so thank you very much.” Curtis himself was unable to attend the ceremony because he was at his ailing father’s bedside.

Scots star backs Lebanon aid

A Scots actress has urged the public to back a charity appeal to help those affected by the Middle East crisis. Kelly Macdonald, 30, is calling on Scots to dig deep to help Oxfam raise ÂŁ1 million for aid in Lebanon, northern Israel and Gaza.

The appeal, launched yesterday, came as the scale of the relief efforts needed was revealed after the ceasefire.

In Lebanon nearly a million people were displaced, a quarter of the country’s population. The money raised through the appeal will provide life-saving clean water, sanitation and public hygiene.
