Lassie is home for new film

Hollywood’s favourite dog Lassie is coming home to Scotland.

The latest adventure of the heroic sheepdog is to be shown at a star-studded charity screening in Glasgow on December 5.

Lassie - whose Scots connection stretches back almost 70 years - will make an appearance before the show at the Odeon at The Quay. The movie also stars Peter O’Toole, Gregor Fisher and Kelly Macdonald. It was filmed in Dublin but the streets were made to look like Glasgow’s.

The first Lassie adventure was a 1938 short story by Eric Knight. It was set in Yorkshire and Scotland. The collie made her film debut in 1943, starring with Elizabeth Taylor in Lassie Come Home. It was followed by sequels and a TV series.

The latest film does not go on general release until December 16.

Tickets for the charity screening - in aid of the Newspaper Press Fund - are available from 0141 309 3285
