| Tristram Shandy news, a new Kelly movie! |
|
‘Shandy’ starts
Meanwhile, Jeremy Northam will play Winterbottom and James Fleet will play Eaton in their next movie, an adaptation of Laurence Sterne’s 18th-century comic masterpiece “The Life and Opinions of Tristram Shandy, Gentleman.”
Steve Coogan will play, um, Steve Coogan, as well as Tristram Shandy and his father, Walter. Former “X-Files” star Gillian Anderson (news) has a cameo as herself.
Confused? You should be. “Tristram Shandy” is arguably the most unfilmable novel in the canon of English literature, and Winterbottom’s typically bold solution is to make a movie about the difficulty of making the movie. The script by Frank Cottrell Boyce flicks back and forth between the 18th century and the hapless efforts of the 21st-century filmmakers.

| Nanny McPhee - Release Date: March 25, 2005 |
|
Limited release
Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!
Nanny McPhee will tell the story of a magical governess who uses her special talents and skills as she works to sort out seven children who have a history of devouring their nannies. Sounds familiar, doesn’t it? Though the story bears a great deal of similarity to the Mary Poppins books by PL Travers and the resulting 1964 Disney film, Nanny McPhee is in fact based upon a series of Nurse Matilda books that are famous in Great Britain. Emma Thompson is adapting these Chrstianna Brand stories for a glorious big-screen production.
Where Mary Poppins centered around two children, Nanny McPhee will focus on seven naughty little boys and girls with the last name of Brown. Colin Firth will play the children’s father, while Thompson herself will take on the title role. Also onboard are Angela Lansbury, who will portray the kids’ aristocratic great aunt, and Gosford Park’s Kelly Macdonald as the maid of the house.
With such a strong cast, Nanny McPhee is already looking to be a highly anticipated British children’s comedy. With the universality of the characters, the story should transfer quite nicely for North American audiences as well.

| Depp Shines in ‘Finding Neverland’ |
|
Lithe women traditionally have played Peter Pan, but Johnny Depp could slip on the tights and put in a convincing turn as the boy who won’t grow up.
Arguably the most versatile actor of his generation, Depp further expands his repertoire with a restrained, compassionate performance as “Peter Pan” creator J.M. Barrie in “Finding Neverland,” a role that could bring the actor his second Academy Award nomination.
